Letting go

...

 ON LETTING GO

AUTHOR UNKNOWN

TO "LET GO" DOES NOT MEAN TO STOP CARING, IT MEANS I CAN'T DO IT FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

How law enforcement can be more effective

I think the law enforcement officers do a terrible job of keeping kids away from drugs and the direction of their efforts can be much more effective. Police spend billions of dollars combatting drug dealers and their focus is built on nailing kingpins in the drug world. This is how to get promoted improve your career options and get a better salary but it is inherently flawed. Since prohibition we know beyong a shadow of a doubt the void left empty by "getting" these guys behind bars or in a grave is instantly filled. Cops pat each other on the back telling us they seized X amount of drugs that will not be used to ruin the lives of vulnerable children. What they really did was cause instant inflation on the street. the scarcity of the supply drives up prices dur to supply and demand economics. All of a sudden a $40 product jumps to $60. What that means is the strung out junkie will need to rob 2 old ladies of their purse to buy their next fix. Dope prices are tied to artificial inflation due to the illegal nature of drugs. A gram of pure herioin would cost around $10 if it was a commodity like coffee. By the time it hits our streets and cut several times a junkie needs to come up with about $350-$400 which means several robberies to innocent victims.

If cops wanted to really help it would take some real change. Like the old days beat cops would learn who the real evil players are by staying in a neigbourhood day after day getting the trust of the citizens. Whan a kid starts smoking pot is when they need intervention. A committed cop can change a life especially in an inner city where many boys have no male power figures in their lives. If  there is a caring person who can point what those hustlers who roll in fancy rigs do to make their money it can change a childs outlook. This is what police work should be about, helping stop criminals from developing in the first place. The other benifit will be they will quickly learn who are the real pushers, trying to hook kids for life. You can't do this sitting in a cruiser as we know. Its easier to wittness a buy and arrest all involved. Once a kid learns the system the hard way he may end up a lifer as we now see is the norm.

Cops should spend most of their time in a community, not driving through it. All crimes will deminish from petty theft and shoplifting to spousal abuse. These are facts. Cops know the way to move forward in their careers is doing none of the above. Try to get the big guy so they read about you in the newsletters and keep the whole wheel turning. There will be lots of new young customers and lots of dealers waiting to swim to the top to fill the void.

Lets change the system so we help the kids.

Simple truths

I heard a cute analogy in the form of a simple truth for those of us who love an addict in our life:

Row, row, row YOUR boat.  Not somebody else's boat or the boat that somebody else wants you to row.   But row, row, row, YOUR boat.

Why is it so different for an addict?

If your child had lung cancer and continued to smoke? what would you do?

If your child was jumping off your roof wouldn't you remove the ladder?

If he were blind, would you sit by and let him drive a car?

If she were a diabietic would you look the other way while she ate a whole cake?

Why is it so different with addiction?

I like this.....

We pray, O God of hope,
for all families
whose lives are torn and disrupted
by drugs and alcohol.
Enable them to identify the illness.
Strengthen them to seek help.
Bless them with the power of your love,
which imparts transformation and wholeness
to those who trust in your name.
Grant that as they walk this tortured road,
they may journey together
and bound close in the bond of love.
Amen.
