Worried Mom

My eleven year old son came back from a weekend at his dad's and his bag of clothes smell funny.  First let me make this clear, in no way do I think my son is abusing substances.  His dad has a new girlfriend that moved in resently.  His bag absolutely reeked I had to rewash all his clothes and left the bag outside. Everything had this sweet sickly smell to it. Any ideas on what this could be or what I should do about it.  I know they smoke cigarettes but it doesn't smell like that. I also noticed the sweet smell in their car when they picked him up. I am worried that it might not be safe for him over there. I don't want to keep him from his dad. I just want to make sure he is safe. Thanks.

I agree. Ask first. If they don't give a believable answer, then you can go through courts to have your ex drug tested if he wishes to have visitation. But don't be mean about it. Approach him with the attitude of only caring about the safety of your son and the example he sets for the son. What he does when the son is not around, you could care less.
