Please, what drug smells like intense chemicals?

What can this be? Last weekend I heard dishes/pots and pans being pulled out. There was some kind of spraying going on but it wasn't aerosol, it sounded like a windex-type sprayer. I also heard sniffing and grunting and a few minutes later I heard him say something like: come on. There was water running and more spraying then a few min. or so later I heard: don't let me f*** this up. My heart started racing. I heard a stove light. I started smelling something chemical-y. More water was running then I heard: woo, woo, woo... There was sniffing sounds (but it's not lines of coke - and btw I hear the constant sniffing often as well). It smelled SO chemical-y it got really, REALLY strong and really scary. My body couldn't take it - I was shaking. The smell was extremely intense about 30-45 min. and was very slow to leave and lingered a long while and was STILL there the next morning but not nearly as bad - but still very, very noticeable. At some point in this ordeal, I had also heard one small time there was what sounded like liquid bubbling - but it was only one short "blurb"-type sound. I could barely sleep. When I woke up, my eyes were itchy and my body was shaking a little, not from fear although I was scared. I also found it a little hard to balance a couple times the next day. I didn't go back to that place at all day the next day - I stayed away because the smell was that strong and so gross. I've never smelled it before but it was definitely chemical-y like super strong nasty toxic cleaning products or something.

The next morning I can tell he had "crashed" as in fell asleep quickly and outside of normal routine.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? I'm trying to get out of there very quickly but also trying to assess what's happening so I can stay alert.

Can you give us a little more detail on where you were? Was this your boyfriends house? Who was the person doing all this? Has this person given you reason to believe they've used drugs before?

I'm just guessing because I have walked into a room shortly after crack was smoked, and it was a noxious chemical smell that made me feel woozy. So my guess would be crack or maybe  meth......just guessing.

definitely someone smoking heroin off of tin foil. That "windex sprayer" sound was the lighter and the "sniffles" was the person inhaling and trying to continue to inhale sharply and as long as possible the next inhaled hit. The longer the hit stays in the lungs, the higher the person can get. So they are sharply inhaling or sniffling if you will, that way no heroin smoke gets out of the mouth and away from them. Again, that person wants to make sure they get as much of the smoke released inside their mouth/lungs for as long as possible.

Thank you for the responses. I'm floored by the answers, my God. To answer some of the questions:

Moderator: Not a boyfriend but a long-term friend. Some people say they thought he liked me. I never liked him in that way. Only in looking back I recall a couple a comments about marijuana, something about getting in trouble when he was younger (but nothing specific), then a week before I because suspicious about alcohol abuse not addiction. I was trying to figure out somewhere else to live but couldn't. (Please don't ask.)

All: Since I wrote this and coinciding when his schedule changed, he started doing something in the morning in the bathroom where he was coughing and coughing and coughing VERY loud almost to the point of sounding like vomiting (but wasn't). I'd also hear toilet lid slamming and spraying and a couple inhales (can't remember the order but the whole thing would last anywhere from 10-30 minutes approximately). There was a Fantastik spray bottle left out some days that made me curious - ?. I recently left there narrowly escaping my life concerned in many ways including what this could have done to me physically after so long me being there. My soul is crushed.
