Have Questions About Addiction? Ask an Addict!

I just found a large amount of small, what looks like, wax paperish packages wrapped with small rubber bands. sealed shut with some kind of round seal.  I flushed it all. What did I find? I was so upset I don't remember what they said, but they were stamped with something.

Oh Marty,

I don't know what it is but I do know the feeling of the never ending discovery. I know that all too well. People say that we need to be aware of what's in our house but it takes a toll on us doesn't it. Have you told your daughter that she needs to move out? I know you were considering that. I'm sure someone will answer.

Dog are you sure? Can you describe it to the ones of us who don't know. I know that oxycontin is the pharm equivilant to heroin. I have checked the DEA website for heroin captures in our area. No heroin found here, yet!

Oh boy, I just told her I flushed it and she was not happy. She said she needed it not to feel sick until she goes to her Dr's appointment for the suboxine program. We had a long talk and she seemed to be honest, I don't know. She told me she was doing 7 bags a day and now she needs 2 bags 2 times a day or she will be sick. She says she really wants to quit, and her new friends at college don't know and they are the best friends she has made in a long time. She also told me her boyfriend who is in rehab would leave her if he knew. I now feel bad for throwing it away, am I stupid? She has an interview for a third job tomorrow. How do I know what is honesty when I only know lies?

First of all do NOT feel bad. That took courage. I would call the doctor and explain the situation and see if you can get in tomorrow. I have made many calls and gotten things when they said they didn't have them.(ex. bed in detox etc.) If she is being honest then she should let you help her. I'm wondering why a third job? As far as the boyfriend goes hopefully he doesn't want her using because he is really trying to stay clean.

I agree with Dog, thats how the bundles are made and stamped to know where it came from and easy to distribute. Also the little balloons are made that way commonly because if they are in a dope house and it gets raided they have time to flush them down the toilet and they flush easily.. 8 bags a day of 20's 50's or what i agree with habiba she is going to eventually feel sick when she stops all opiate intake. Not wanting to ever feel sick is an absolute reason an addict will use,,, at this point  its no longer to get high its just to feel normal. Thats when i believe the definite line of addiction has been crossed.   

Yes she may feel sick but dont ask youself if you are stupid for throwin drugs away. Addicts are great at shifting the guilt to someone else. I did it all the time to my parents and friends ... Maybe she should wait on the third job until she can get her life in better order.

Sounds like Heroin to me.  I have been in that place, finding 'things' in my house...stamp bags of heroin, black tar heroin, pipes, burned spoons, burned aluminum foil...all mysteries to me until I looked them up online.  I know way more than I ever wanted.  I have also been in the place of having blame shifted to me, when my child was the one with the problem.  If you daughter does not want to be sick, she should go to a detox unit and be tritated off the opiates.  Also, it is your home, your house.  You do not have to tolerate illegal drug use in your home, or someone bringing illegal drugs into your home.  You are not the problem.  Her addiction is.

If you are on the east coast or mid west that sounds to me like heroin.On the east coast the heroin is what they call china white,it's packaged in whats call glassines or wax paper then bundled up in portions of ten.This is called a bundle,one of the packages alone is called a bindle.Usually the stamp on the bindles tells the user whayt  brand it is.
