From what I understand, PTSD/addiction is not uncommon.  It is unclear which pre-dates the other.

Hi,

My brother had been deployed to Iraq for one year...He came back a changed man...I say this because while serving our country he stayed sober and had the will to fight for us...He came back and started on painkillers, narcotics, benzodiazapams, addictive anxiety medications, to many to post here...He died within one year from an oxycodone overdose...This was so painful to me that when he came back, he didn't want to save himself from addiction...Yes, he suffered greatly from PTSD...

Regarding yourself, maybe as a child you suffered some traumatic events, maybe your teen years , or somewhere in your lifetime...Yes, you could suffer from PTSD...A good doctor will be able to tell the symptons...

Hope this helps...
