Can addicts do any drugs
My friend has been a heroin addict for 10 years. He decided a few months back to stop and has been on Subutex and hasn't done heroin since September.
He is still doing coke and zanax. Is replacing one drug for another even helping him?

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs Dear Newbie, Welcome here. Your friend is an addict and can and will do anything. He is feeding his addiction and has found a combination that has some of the same effect as shooting heroin. What an idiot! Sorry, but he is sick. I once found a little blue pill on a bathroom floor and crushed and added that to my spoon. Never knew what it was. Could have been a birth control pill! You are his friend. You could offer to axccompany him to rehab or to an AA meeting, but that is all you can do. Freyja Posted: 01/30/2018 9:53 AM Received 1 Thanks for this Post |

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs No, perhaps weed to help withdrawls but coke will make him depressed, no dopamine will be manufactured in his brain and he will fall into depression. Same thing with Zanax. Keep supporting but be prepared for more problems down the road. Posted: 01/30/2018 8:31 PM Received 2 Thanks for this Post |

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs Thanks everyone. These past few weeks he has become worse. He is only happy when he is high and them when he isn't he is depressed. It's sad to see him go through this, but I have removed myself from the situation. He was getting mean towards me and not like the guy I knew. I will continue to pray for him. I appreciate this forum to be able to see others who have been through this. Posted: 01/30/2018 9:03 PM Received 2 Thanks for this Post |

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs Newbie, You did the only thing you could do, remove yourself. It is a hard decision to make because it is in our nature to believe that if we take on some of the reponsibility of the addict, we can make a difference, but no, don't fall into that trap. He is on a journey into death, and only he can see his way out of it. Be well, Freyja

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs a tiny bit. However, the disease is neurobiological. The disease is Addiction. The disease is not opiates, or coke, or xanax, or alchol. The disease is addiction. Your friend still has work to do Posted: 03/15/2018 11:49 PM Received 1 Thanks for this Post |

In Response to: Can addicts do any drugs Your friend has just traded one addiction for the other. We often do this because we can't or won't completely surrender. Heroin is hard but it can be beaten with time and hard work and the same for the other addictions. People think you can get clean just like that! It can take several years to actually overcome addictions. Then there is the brain healing and a new way of thinking to begiun to process everything that has taken place in the life of that person. It's an ongoing process and it is at times so overwhelming! Feelings, emotions are restored and better and better days ahead.
