Effective September 9, 2026
Privacy Policy
Ask An Addict is designed to let people seek support without publicly revealing their email address or legal name. This policy describes the information the community uses.
Information you provide
- Your email address and account-identification information
- Your screen name, optional profile photo, profile description, and support-topic choices
- Questions, replies, reactions, private messages, and reports you submit
- Information you send when asking an administrator for help
Information created through use
The service may process basic technical and security information such as request times, browser or device information, authentication events, and error logs. This helps operate, protect, and troubleshoot the community.
How information is used
- To create accounts and provide community features
- To display the profile information and posts you choose to share
- To deliver sign-in links and activity notifications
- To review first posts, investigate reports, prevent abuse, and enforce community rules
- To maintain security and improve reliability
What other members can see
Your email address is not displayed publicly. Members may see your screen name, optional profile details, public posts, replies, and reactions. If you choose anonymous posting, your screen name is hidden from other members on that question. Topics where you seek support remain private unless you deliberately choose to display them.
Private messages and moderation
Private messages are intended for their participants. If a message is reported, authorized administrators may review the reported content to address safety or rule violations. Administrators may also access account-linked information when reasonably necessary to operate and protect the service.
Service providers
Trusted technology providers process information needed to host the site, store community data and profile photos, authenticate members, send secure sign-in emails, and protect the service. They process information under their own security and privacy obligations.
Retention and choices
Information may be retained while your account is active and as reasonably necessary for safety, moderation, legal obligations, backups, and dispute prevention. You may edit optional profile information at any time. Contact a community administrator to request account assistance, correction, or deletion. Some records may need to be retained when permitted or required for safety or legal reasons.
Security and age
Reasonable safeguards are used, but no online service can promise absolute security. Membership and posting are limited to adults age 18 and older. The service is not intended to collect account information from minors.
Policy changes
This policy may be updated as the service develops. The effective date at the top will be changed when a revised version is posted.
