Rescued friend who steals meds
I have an old friend living with me because she was evicted and had no place to go. She can't work right now due to recent surgery and has almost no money. (OK, she has no money) She has lived with me for 6 months. During this time, I have discovered that she has stolen lots of meds from me and on more than one occasion. Obviously she has to go--I should have kicked her out long ago, but she will be homeless. I would appreciate any wise words and suggestions on handling this.

In Response to: Rescued friend who steals meds I would give her a week to make other arrangements. If she doesn't make any attempt to do so, give her a ride to a shelter or if you can't do it, have someone else you know do it. This all hinges on whether she is using your address as her own, getting mail there, changed ID etc. If that is the case, she can be considered a tenant and you will have to go to court and file eviction papers and she will get 30 days to vacate. If she refuses, then it becomes a police matter. That's how it works in my state anyway. That step is if she is aware of the tenant laws. Posted: 11/22/2015 6:04 AM Received 0 Thanks for this Post |

In Response to: Rescued friend who steals meds If she is an active addict, she will ride your generosity train as far as she can. You need to tell her you just can't do it anymore..you have enough responsibilities in life. You can address the missing meds and offer to drive her to a program if she would like, but my guess is she'll deny taking them. If she does want help, sit her in front of a computer with a phone & have her search for programs & contacts. Posted: 11/22/2015 6:11 AM Received 1 Thanks for this Post |
