What's the difference between being clean and being in recovery?

Same. In recovery and clean means you have no drugs and alcohol in your system and are actively trying to stay sober with any of the following methods- therapy (rehab), 12 steps, AA/NA meetings, smart recovery, etc.

Usually after completing the steps or being sober over a year, people identify themselves as "recovered addicts" instead of "in recovery".

clean? means you haven't used within a certain period of time. In recovery? You are clean, and you are working some kind of program to maintain sobriety, consistently, and earnestly.

theres a dry addict and dry alcoholic and then there's a recoverying addict or recoverying alcoholic. dry means doing absolutely nothing just staying absitnence from drugs or alcohol. being in recovery means going to 12 step meetings, having a sponsor and working the steps.
