In 2008 I turned 40 years old and had absolutely had ENOUGH!
....well, actually, I had been at the "enough" point for some time as I had (at least) acknowleged my alcoholism at the age of 18 and attended my first A.A. meeting at 19. I would find my way in and out of those life saving meetings for the next 20+ years before finally understanding the true meaning of "PROGRESSIVE Disease", and what that actually means for the person who has it!
Praise Jesus, I am still teachable.... among other things! I turned 40 in January but, much to my surprise, I didn't... well, I couldn't pull the e-brake and stop the "big 4-0 birthday celebration" for another 2.5 months!! I was alarmed at this realization, to say the least! I took my last drink on March 26th, 2008 and entered a 90 day treatment facility the following day. As of today, I am so pleased to tell you I have not taken a drink since that last one in March 2008.... and while this has not been an easy 2.5 years for me, it has, without question, been the most rewarding because of the truly wonderful changes and blessings that have come as a direct result of my (very wise, long over-due) decision to get sober AND do WHATEVER IT TAKES to stay this way! One day... one hour... one minure (and sometimes even one second) at a time...I fight to remain clean and sober! I work at it every day... that's how I roll!
I just found this wonderful website TODAY, October 5th, 2010 while I was gathering information for a friends mother... in an effort to help my suffering friend, I feel it's VERY important to also help and educate those who are in his life. I am thrilled to have discovered this website as it is not only a great resource for those who are seeking help and information about addiction, but it is also making it possible for me to offer myself, my experience, strength and hope to even more people!! I love how God is just constantly blessing my life in these ways! ♥
