Dirty Room

I've been saddled with the unpleasant task of cleaning out my son's room.  He left it in "crack house" condition.  So far all I've been able to do is get the dirty dishes and soak them in a sink full of bleachy water, and pick up the large pieces of trash.  Several boxes of cereal have been spilled in the covers on the bed, The floor is under a few inches of debris consisting of cigarette packages, plastic drink bottles, clothes, dirt, grass, and frozen dinner trays.

I'm done for today..........going to walk the dogs.   Hope it is just as pretty where ever you all are at.  It's sunny, breezy, and 75 degrees here!

Speaker

I got a chance to hear William Cope Moyers (author of Broken and What Now?) speak tonight.  My city has several "recovery" churches and one of them has a former member of the Moody Blues as its' pastor.  Because of his days in show business, he gets the most amazing musical guests and speakers to come to our city.

It was an awesome experience.

detox

Today my son packed his bags and went to detox center, he was there for 4 hours and by the end the insurance company (Megilan) denied him and they said he does not make a criteria for inpatient and he has to go to out patient. They said his situation is not critical for inpatient detox. I will appeal tomorrow. Crazy

Enabling

en·a·ble

[en-ey-buhl] Show IPA
verb (used with object), en·a·bled, en·a·bling.
1.
to make able; give power, means, competence, or ability to; authorize:
2.
to make possible or easy:

I have been thinking about enabling today and I know how hard it is not to enable the addicts in our lives. I remember when my daughter was really deep in her addiction and I thought to myself, "Well maybe if I got sick, like cancer or something it would make her stop". Wow, to think where our minds go. I know it is difficult or impossible tor some people to do the tough love thing, but even if there is a 1% chance it may work, why not try. It does not always work, but it does give us serenity and a peaceful home. What I do know, beyond a shadow of a doubt is that enabling never works. A warm bed, food and a family are the basic needs, but for an addict, that is all they need to continue to use, as well as access to our belongings to sell. I believe that not trying what is hard is not helping the addict, it is selfish and only helps us. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but it is my opinion. I see week after week friends of my daughters in the paper getting arrested, still living at home, wondering when the overdose will come. Melissa has gone to 2 funerals in the last couple of weeks, I just don't understand what these parents are thinking is going to happen. With my daughter, she would do anything it took to get sober when she was ready and I as a parent would do anything to make her hit bottem faster so she would be ready.

I wanna stay clean, but not sober

I'm so sick of people judging me. I'm doing quite well, not sticking a needle in my arm for almost 3 months. But damm, I like a beer occasionally. I've been drinking since I was 2 years old, a remedy from my grandmother to help my asthma that contained whiskey, lemon, tea and honey.

Would please someone give me a break for drinking a beer or two. The first time I was put in treatment was in 1974 when I was 14, for shootin up demoral. I'll soon be 53 and I'm still funciotnal.

Not asking for pity or false prayers. Does anyone feel kind of cheated when you beat the montstors and reward with a glass of wine?

Not judgin, just askin

Very Thankful

As most of you know My AS was laid off of work about 6 weeks ago. He was told it would be for about 2 weeks. Of course my radar went up thinking oh no did he really get laid oof, will he be fine, what will his idle time bring.

While he was off work he did everything I asked of him around the house. He basically played video games most of the time and I knew where he was all the time.

Well he got called back to work for this Monday!!!! He vever would have been called back if he wasn't the hard worked I thought he was. I am so happy.

He also has taken up fishing as a hobby. It kept him busy all of last summer. We got him a nice rod for Christmas and this weekend starts the fishing season and he will be on a charter tomorow! I am happy he has found something to occupy him.

He doesn't go to meetings and I know he dabbles in pot but it is so far from where he was over a year ago. As I have said before he is OK. Ok will be good enough for him to remain with us as long as his path continues away from his destructive past

.Happy Easter everyone!!!! (those of you that celebrate!)

halfway house

My son told me today that he wants to go back to halfway house again. Now if you remember he was in detox for 10 days and then he went to a halfway house and relapsed while he was there for 6 days. He came home and took his car and at the same day he relapsed. they kicked him out and went back after few days and then they kicked him out again. He lived in his car for few days. we found him and brought him back home. He is home for the last 4 days and he has been using. One of the guys from halfway house is in-touch with him and told him to come back and they are going to help him to go through 12 steps and stay clean. Now he is telling us he wants to go back this weekend. I told him to go to detox and then go, he said I have few sonoxone and will detox myself and go back clean. He told us he needs to do it and he needs help. Do you think it is wise for him to go there without going to detox center?

I want a job!

So I started volunteering and this place called Hope Center it's a thrift store a lot like salvation army, put on by a church and stuff to help poor people. They give free job training and i thought that would look good on job apps. They said they might drug test volunteers because the program is kinda set up for bad people like me that can't get a job. I am kind of happy they drug test though because that's one more reason to stay clean. Which i haven't been that good at doing... But now instead of doing it when ever i can get my hands on it, i try to avoid it as much as possible but slip back into doing it, then feeling bad and not for awhile then doing it again and so on.
